Trauma Changes More Than What Happened

It changes what you believe about yourself.

Maybe you tell yourself it wasn’t “bad enough.”
Maybe you think you should be over it by now.
Maybe you avoid thinking about it because it hurts too much.

And sometimes, trauma isn’t one event.

It’s years of walking on eggshells.
Feeling unheard.
Putting your needs last.
Just surviving.

Trauma can change how you see your worth, your relationships, your safety, and your future.

If any of this feels familiar, you’re not alone.

And you’re not beyond healing.

Trauma Doesn’t Always Look Like Trauma

Many people think trauma only refers to military combat, catastrophic accidents, or life-threatening events.

Sometimes it does.

But trauma can also come from experiences that quietly reshape how you move through life.

  • Childhood emotional neglect
  • Physical, emotional, or sexual abuse
  • Domestic violence
  • Losing someone you love
  • Growing up feeling like your voice didn’t matter
  • Addiction in the family
  • Medical trauma
  • Narcissistic or emotionally abusive relationships
  • Divorce or family conflict
  • Being the person who always had to be “strong”

Trauma isn’t measured by whether someone else thinks it was bad enough.

It’s measured by how it continues to affect your life today.

You Learned to Survive

That doesn’t mean you have to stay there.

The anxiety…

The people pleasing…

The anger…

The numbness…

The constant need to stay in control…

The fear of letting people get close…

None of those things happened by accident.

At some point they protected you.

Today they may be exhausting you.

Therapy isn’t about judging those survival skills.

It’s about helping you understand where they came from, appreciating how they helped you survive, and deciding whether they’re still helping you live the life you want.

My Approach to Trauma Therapy

I don’t believe healing happens because someone hands you a worksheet or tells you to “think differently.”

Healing begins with understanding.

Understanding what happened.

Understanding how it shaped you.

Understanding why your mind and body still respond the way they do.

Together we’ll identify patterns, process painful experiences at a pace that feels safe, and help you rebuild a relationship with yourself that’s based on compassion instead of survival.

Some days we’ll have difficult conversations.

Some days we’ll laugh.

Some days we’ll simply sit with emotions you’ve spent years trying to avoid.

All of that is healing.

What Therapy Can Help You Rebuild

Imagine waking up without constantly expecting the next bad thing to happen.

Imagine feeling safe enough to trust people again.

Imagine setting boundaries without guilt.

Imagine believing your worth isn’t determined by what you’ve survived.

Imagine looking in the mirror and seeing yourself instead of your trauma.

That’s what we’re working toward.

Not forgetting your story.

Not pretending it didn’t happen.

But making sure it no longer gets to decide who you become.

You Don’t Have to Carry This Alone Anymore

You may have spent years convincing yourself that asking for help means you’re weak.

I see it differently.

Asking for help is often the first moment someone decides they’re ready to stop surviving and start living.

If you’re ready…

I’d be honored to walk that journey with you.
